Everyone loves the feeling of checking your bank balance when payday rolls around. However, if you’re a student, this probably isn’t a feeling that you are currently experiencing. Most likely you are consumed by a sea of deadlines, classes, assignments, and exams which leaves little time to work or plenty of reasons not to! If you are trying to avoid adding more to your already hectic schedule, then take caution scrolling down this blog post…

Here come 9 reasons why you shouldn’t work while studying!

1. You don’t want to exercise while getting paid

Oh no, completing deliveries by riding your bike? What would happen to your gym membership card if you worked out while going around the city to deliver food, packages, and other stuff? Wait a minute… Is this the best deal or what?

Not only will you save money by not paying for the gym (by the way, how often did you actually go to the gym in the past year anyway?) but also will you make good money. Delivery jobs are awesome for students like you because you don’t have to commit to a specific schedule. You simply turn on the app on your smartphone to start delivering, and turn it off when it’s time for class, or a party, we don’t judge. Plus, with most apps, you have the option to use a bicycle, not a car, which you might consider too expensive to own. (Some apps require delivery drivers to schedule their hours in advance and clearly state what vehicles are allowed to drive/ride, though.)

This will take some of the financial burdens off your shoulders AND, at the same time, help you decrease stress. How? By being around cute pets!

It’s scientifically proven that having interactions with pets, playing with dogs, cuddling with cats and accepting all those licks, purrs and love from them can have a major positive effect on you and other humans. So, no, don’t take up pet sitting if you want to end up with high blood pressure and nightmares before your exams! Not to mention that pet-sitting jobs, such as dog walking, pet taxi, home boarding etc. will not require any professional experience or formal training. (It’s good to have, though.) Also, you can work whenever you have the time.

3. You want to lose some precious memories

Don’t get rid of your things! Sure, you will earn money, but what about all those sweet memories of that lovely vase you spontaneously bought during your last vacation five years ago? It never matched your room, but still those memories. Admit it, you were a little tipsy when you made that purchase.

What? Did we hear well? You don’t mind giving it away? Well, look around! Do you see other objects in your room you don’t use, like clothes, shoes, sports equipment, pieces of furniture, gadgets or suitcases? You can put up everything online on selling platforms and sell at a good price to make money while studying. The golden rule for deciding what to get rid of is: did you use the item in the past year? If the answer is no or only a couple of times, then you will not miss it. And you don’t even need to put so much effort into it. Selling online will be a passive, easy way to earn some extra bucks.

4. You don’t want to use your talent

You are still studying and don’t have any professional experience, but what about those long posts you write on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram? Or your personal blog for that matter? Shouldn’t those count as something? Hell, yeah! There are many things you might be good at, and yet it might not have crossed your mind that those could help you make money while studying. Take blogging, for example. Who reads blogs in 2019? Well, not your aunt Shirley, but surely millions of people around the world. Many companies are present on social networks and might be looking for people to come up with ideas for content to publish or manage their communities.

Take a look at your personal Facebook and Instagram! If you can’t have enough of posting on them, why not do it for others? If programming is your hobby, or even your field of studies, why not take up relevant tasks online and complete them on your own time? In general, you can find endless flexible job opportunities that may have something to do with your studies and/or hobbies via online freelance platforms. You could work on your own schedule and with no boss constantly looking over your shoulder. And the jobs will help you not only make money while studying but also gain some experience and build a portfolio.

To make some easy money and meet some awesome people from all over the world, of course! Just think about what kind of classes you could offer. You can teach your native language, offer tutoring in math, physics, essay writing and other subjects. It’s possible to share your knowledge of things you’re currently studying like law, finance, statistics, design, web development, or even how to cook, sew or knit. Online courses are the best because you can offer them from wherever you are and whenever you are available.

7. You don’t want to earn money by doing what you’ve been already doing for years

Take a good look around your room: How tidy is it? Does it still have stains from the party you threw one month ago? Are your clothes all in the closet or are they staring you judgmentally piled up on a chair? Ask yourself whether or not you’re ready to clean up other people’s homes. You should answer this question truthfully before you decide to take up cleaning gigs. But, at the end of the day, you must have cleaned your room a hundred times—either at your parents’ place or in the dorm. Then why not do it for money, right? The good thing about cleaning jobs is that you can do them whenever you have the time. They are easy-peasy to do with the precondition that you can’t get bored of cleaning so easily. To avoid such situations, listen to your favorite music, a podcast or an audiobook while cleaning. Time will pass more easily and in a more pleasant way!

Put on your long coat and dark glasses (newspaper optional) and start your career as a mystery shopper. Yet try to blend in, you don’t want attention while tasting food, spending a night in a fancy hotel, trying on shoes and clothes, checking the presence of products, promotions, sales in a store, taking photos of how things are displayed in shops, asking the staff some questions, or doing other simple tasks. You can take up tasks at locations near you not to waste time commuting and at times convenient for your busy student schedule.

9. You don’t want to do anything for the planet

What if you could make money with stuff you own without having to be separated from them entirely? That would be awesome, right? We don’t want you to suffer from separation anxiety or something similar. If there is something you can’t sell, you can rent it out.

By renting your unused items, you could make a profit and still be able to use your stuff whenever you need them. And you would do something for the planet! Renting, done in the right way, can be more sustainable. You can rent out sports equipment, like your snowboard or surfboard, speakers or DJ equipment for a party, your drones, your bicycle, your car, tools, and even your room when you’re away.
